Mini Rig Jam

I’ve been building up my Mini-rig for a while, here’s a picture, video and mp3 file.

I’m using 2 x GorF sequencers, 1 of which is driving the Meeblip and the other my Shruti-1. There’s also 1 x Tron Drum pattern Programmer driving, via MIDI, the MFB-522 drum brain. Third GorF is ready to hooked up to Zira when it’s completed.

I’m looking for a way of “mounting” this rig, I’m thinking about something like a guitar pedal board, any suggestions/recomendations welcomed!

(The “whine” is from my cheap USB audio interface)

Awesome setup!! I’ve had something like this in my head for awhile now, but you’ve done it so well! Great little set of very cool devices. I have a Meeblip, but still want to get my hands on a Shruthi-1 (among many other things). I’m very new to the DIY/music scene but I’m looking to get into it a bit deeper and improve my soldering skills and confidence. Your site is very inspirational.

Question: Do you have each piece running midi between each other, or are you using a computer or some kind of hub?

You could mount into a suitcase like this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFQ1MzcFCOc&feature=player_embedded

Though I think someone could do a more elegant job, his looks like just a bunch of straps.

Also, is there any way to get a Gorf PCB these days? Looking around, there doesn’t seem to be anything like it. I’d love to make/have one someday or hear your suggestions about getting something similar if its not available.

    Thanks for your kind words.

The suitcase thing is a good idea… I’m sure I can find something similar, thanks for the video, very inspirational.

    To answer your questions;

    1) No computer was used (other than to power the Meeblip), Tron provides master clock, into a MIDI Through box, which then splits timing to the two GorFs, one drives the Meeblip and one the SHruti-1. The MFB-522 is connected to the MIDI Through and the sounds are triggered from Tron.

    2) Sadly I don’t have any GorF PCBs at the moment, I need to sell some more TRON kits before I can afford to buy more GORFs (I make almost zero profit on my kits).

Hi Paul! Awesome gear and setup! Very inspiring.
I’m nooby on Midi thing and i’m on progress to build Tron + Gorf.
    My question is :
    1. You said: “into a MIDI Through box, which then splits timing to the two GorFs”
How to splits timing? Divider? or just Setting on Gorf?
    2. I can’t see a *.syx and *.hex file on TRON pages.
What file should I compli first? I only see “C” file on ZIP file.
    Apologize for my English.

    Tevi

    Tevi,

    1. Just a standard MIDI thru box that copies everything coming in on one port, to 8 others… so everything coming in from TRON is copied to every midi port, as TRON is on a different MIDI channel to the GORFs the only thing that is “seen” by GORF is the MIDI Clock.

    2. I need to upload the sysex file, but to build it you’ll need the .rom and .eep files, I’ll get them uploaded this week.

    P.s. 1 x Tron kit remains.

    Ah I see! I understand now. :)
Unfortunately I can not afford to buy it, thanks for the offer.

I have completed to make gorf pcb(double side),and I programmed the Atmega 32 with *hex.file from Gorf v1.00 code .zip. I used avr isp programmer with helping some friends.
    My problem is:

    1. I cant see “gorf text” when it load. 5th second later it showed
    ” 1_00″ on display.
    2. All fitur/menu worked fine when i tweak the knob/push the button, but it’s not fast as on your video. Its seem “delay/latency”.
    3. When i push start button, the led didnt running. Only “fast lit” on Led 1st and led 5th.
    4. In NOTE mode, only led 1,2,5,6th are lits when the button is pushed.

I double checked the PCB, there’s no error.
    What should i do?
Is it correct file which i used to programmed?
    Need your help.
    Tnks,

    Tevi,

It sounds like a switch or LED is mounted the wrong way around.
It’s difficult for me to understand without seeing the pictures.. Can you take pictures or a video?
